Many parents bring their infants to us to start chiropractic care following birth. The birthing process can be very traumatic on the infant’s developing nervous system which can lead to negative symptoms. Some of these symptoms include: colic, reflux, ear infections, irritability, poor sleeping habits, difficulty latching/nursing, and constipation. Spinal misalignments can also lead to delayed developmental milestones, asthma, digestive issues, poor posture, and poor coordination. As chiropractors, we locate and correct the spinal misalignments and patients often see improvements in their symptoms following adjustments. This is why we make it our highest priority to check families for early detection of spinal misalignments, giving all kids a chance to develop at their optimal potential and giving them the greatest chance of being healthy.
When to have your child checked for misalignments
The most important times (other than immediately after birth) to have your infant checked for spinal misalignments are when the child first begins to:
- pick up their head while on the belly
As kids develop it is normal for kids to participate in sports, fall off bikes, tumble, and have accidents, etc., so children should continue chiropractic care and/or check-ups throughout childhood. These minor incidents can lead to issues as adults if they are not corrected.
