Chiropractic care during pregnancy is beneficial for mom and her growing baby.
Over the duration of pregnancy, expectant mothers will gain anywhere from 30-40 pounds. The increased weight gain will cause a shift in gravity, which will cause an increase in curvature of the spine, leading to back pain. During this time many women experience symptoms due to spinal misalignments. Some of these symptoms include frequent headaches, neck pain, mid back pain, rib pain, indigestion, pubic pain, low back pain, sciatica, and constipation. Most women report relief of these symptoms following chiropractic adjustments.
Sacral misalignments cause an imbalance in the muscles and torsion in the ligaments which lead to an uneven pull of the uterus and restricted fetal space for movement.
Regular chiropractic care for expectant mothers prepares the pelvis for an easier pregnancy and birth by creating balance within the bony structures, muscles, and ligaments.
Adjustments help remove interference to the mother’s nervous system. Balancing the pelvis gives the baby more room to develop without restrictions. Adjustments also offer the baby room to move into the best possible position for birth. When the baby is in proper position there is significant decrease in difficulties (e.g. long labor times, pain, etc.) during labor.
Dr. Jessica is certified in the Webster Technique, which is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment to reduce the effects of sacral and/or pelvic misalignments. This specific adjustment allows for optimal fetal positioning. Dr. Jessica has had many women seek chiropractic care after hearing that her baby is presenting breech. After achieving pelvic balance using this specific analysis, babies have a greater chance of moving into the proper position for birth.
